First Mynderse Academy Students Complete, Earn Credit in Northeast College Anatomy Course for High School Students
Northeast College of Health Sciences proudly recognizes the first cohort of high school students to complete its college-level Principles of Human Anatomy and Physiology course. The 13 students from Mynderse Academy (part of the Seneca Falls Central School District in Seneca Falls, NY) completed the year-long program, earning four college credits and graduated this June as members of the Mynderse Class of 2025.
Offered through a growing collaboration between Northeast College and K-12 school districts in the Finger Lakes region and New York City metro area, the Principles of Human Anatomy and Physiology course introduces high school students to advanced anatomy and biomedical science while preparing them for the expectations of college-level learning.
A Northeast First for Future Healthcare Leaders
“This innovative program gives students early access to world-class lab experiences and college-level content,” said Dr. Ilija Arar, associate professor at Northeast College. “We hope it sparks curiosity and inspires the next generation of science-literate leaders and healthcare professionals.”
The course combines daily classroom instruction at the students’ high school with monthly hands-on labs at Northeast’s state-of-the-art Anatomy Center. Students learn using real human cadavers along with virtual dissection tools like 3D Anatomage tables. On-site teaching is provided by high school instructors with lab sessions led by Northeast faculty.
The resources available to these students provide a rare opportunity for hands-on college-level learning, said Scott Redding, Mynderse biology teacher. “They’re getting an authentic experience in college-level learning.”
Many students in the inaugural class plan to pursue careers in healthcare, with interests in medicine, neuroscience, forensic psychology and education. With their first college course completed and four credits earned, they’ve gained a meaningful head start on their academic journeys.
Students in Northeast’s inaugural Principles of Human Anatomy and Physiology class included: Alyson Furletti, Myah Herron, Riayla Jones, Kylee Kolbash, Chelsea Korzeniewski, Vanyssa Larizza, Riley McLeod, Robert Meeks, Lillian Nicholson, Amelia Reese, Siafon Thanthima and Makayla Williams. Northeast is especially proud of these Mynderse Academy graduates, who embraced a new challenge and played a key role in launching a successful program that will open doors for more high school students in the future.
More offerings of the Principles of Human Anatomy and Physiology course are planned at Northeast’s Seneca Falls and Long Island campuses, furthering the College’s commitment to preparing high school students to thrive in healthcare and science-related fields.
