Inaugural Menzo Case Scholarship Recipient Completes First Trimester in Northeast College’s Radiologic Technology Program

Northeast College of Health Sciences has welcomed the inaugural recipient of the Menzo Case Scholarship, Allen Hawker (M.S. ’27), who recently completed his first trimester in the Radiologic Technology program. The Seneca Falls native said, “The program and College are a really good fit for me.”
Hawker grew up in the Finger Lakes region, moving with his family into his great-grandparents’ home on Cayuga Lake at the age of five. With the College, then New York Chiropractic College, located in the same town, attending had long been a dream. “It was amazing to be in a small town where people were traveling here to become doctors,” said Hawker, a 2011 graduate of Mynderse Academy.
Scholarship Supports Future Healthcare Leader
When Northeast College introduced new undergraduate programs in 2024 that aligned with his career goals, Hawker saw the perfect opportunity to pursue a career change. The Menzo Case Scholarship helped make that dream a reality, allowing him to focus on his studies while staying connected to his community.
The scholarship honors the memory of Mr. Menzo Case, a beloved community leader and member of the College’s Board of Trustees. It is awarded to students from New York’s Finger Lakes region pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in radiologic technology or diagnostic medical sonography who demonstrate a commitment to volunteering and community service. Hawker sees the scholarship as an opportunity to carry forward Mr. Case’s legacy. “I hope to honor Mr. Case by being a supportive team member, giving back to the community and helping others achieve their goals,” he said.
Passion for Science, Commitment to Community
Hawker’s interest in healthcare and imaging began during his undergraduate studies at Buffalo State, where he focused on psychology and behavioral neuroscience and worked with functional MRI. “I was fascinated by the ability to explore the body and brain non-invasively,” he explained. After teaching fourth grade and working one-on-one with students, he realized he wanted a career combining science, technology and interaction with people. His experience as a tech in a hospital orthopedic office further inspired him to pursue radiologic technology.
Hawker’s connection to the Finger Lakes has shaped both his personal and professional goals. “Growing up around Seneca Falls and Lake Cayuga gave me an appreciation for the seasons, nature and community. It instilled in me a love of learning, reflection and giving back,” he said. That commitment is evident in his extensive volunteer work, which includes after-school programs, chess clubs, math enrichment sessions and substitute teaching at local schools.
Looking ahead, Hawker hopes to be fully cross trained in modalities such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and fully immersed in the field, with a long-term goal of becoming a professor to inspire others while keeping service and community at the heart of his career.
The Menzo Case Scholarship provides financial support and recognizes students who exemplify dedication to both academic achievement and community service, helping ensure the next generation of healthcare professionals is prepared to make a meaningful impact.
