first tri students gather for Commitment to Excellence pledge

Northeast College of Health Sciences hosted its Spring 2023 ceremonies the week of July 25, 2023, to honor student milestones and achievements. Among the events were Northeast's Transitions Ceremony, held on July 27, and the Spring Commencement ceremony on July 29.

Northeast’s Commitment to Excellence.

The Commitment to Excellence Pledge event, recognizing first-trimester students as they begin their chiropractic education, kicked off Ceremony Week on July 26. Northeast College President Dr. Michael Mestan presented each student with a pin reflecting the College mission that reads: “Excellence. Professionalism. Leadership," after they recited the oath to their chosen profession and future patients.

“Ceremony Week is such an exciting time at Northeast College, as we celebrate excellence,” said Dr. Mestan.

Northeast Alumnus Addresses Graduates as Keynote Speaker.

Holding three Northeast graduate degrees, Dr. Ryan Barker (D.C. ‘10, M.S. ‘10, M.S. ’13) remembered lessons learned and provided advice for students. Barker recalled memories of being in the same place as the new doctors and facing his yet-uncharted future as a healthcare professional. “As you graduate, I ask you to fall in love with your profession,” Barker said.

Now a successful chiropractor for more than 10 years, Barker utilizes the foundation he built while studying at the College as the successful owner of Oswego Family Chiropractic, and at SUNY Oswego, where he teaches anatomy and physiology along with nutrition courses five days a week.

Transitions Ceremony Celebrates Seventh-Tri Students.

Sherry McAllister speaks at Transitions Ceremony

Just a couple of days before Commencement, on July 27, seventh-trimester Northeast chiropractic students received their white clinical coats during the Spring 2023 Transitions Ceremony. Held in the Standard Process Health & Fitness Center, the event recognizes the transition of students into the clinical phase of their education.  At the ceremony, awards were presented to students for academic excellence, and Dean of Clinical Education Dr. Wendy Maneri addressed students and presented the Student Oath.

Foundation for Chiropractic Progress President Sherry McAllister shared great advice for our seventh-trimester students as the Transitions Ceremony keynote speaker:

  1. Remove the negative.
  2. Build strong relationships — no one makes it alone.
  3. Grow and PLAY your strengths.
  4. Bring it all together with action.
