Dr. Annie Reyes and Dr. Matt Reyes

Meet Annie Reyes (D.C. '14) and Matt Reyes (D.C. '13)

Annie Reyes: State College, Pa.
Matt Reyes: Apalachin, N.Y.

Undergrad degrees:
Annie Reyes: bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Penn State University
Matt Reyes: bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, SUNY Cortland

Drs. Annie and Matt Reyes knew they would find an innovative, science-driven education at New York Chiropractic College. What they didn't know is that they'd also find each other.

"We were at trivia night at Bull's Run in Seneca Falls and our mutual friends set us up," said Dr. Annie Reyes (D.C. '14). At that time, she was in her fifth trimester at the College and her husband was in his sixth.

The rest, as they say, is history. After graduation, the couple married and moved back to Annie's hometown of State College, Pa., where they opened Reyes Active Body Chiropractic, welcoming patients of all ages and demographics.

"Our mission is to empower our patients and their families to live at their highest potential by experiencing the highest quality of life expression through chiropractic care, nutrition, and a balanced lifestyle," said Annie Reyes. "We have been evolving our practice since its opening, and we are excited about the direction that we are moving in."

The College class size encourages camaraderie, and spending most days together facilitates the formation of lasting friendships. The instructors have the students' best interests in mind, and always encourage a deeper understanding of subject matter.

The College gave the couple a "vast toolbox to understand and properly diagnose the variety of people walking through our doors." Faculty and staff mentors assisted them as their idea for a practice developed, and they had help in writing a business plan and determining where to set up their practice.

Working in their own practice, said Dr. Matt Reyes (D.C. '13), "is not a job, but a lifestyle. I love supporting patients on their journey to a higher level of health and living and watching their perspective on health transform."

"I love going into the office and serving patients alongside my husband," said Dr. Annie Reyes. "It is so fulfilling to watch our patients grow in their understanding of chiropractic and how it can help. I love seeing our team and patients be empowered to take responsibility for their health more than they thought they could."

Quick Questions with Chiropractors Matt and Annie Reyes

Was chiropractic your first career choice?
Dr. Matt Reyes: I was initially enrolling in a nutrition program, but when I experienced chiropractic care personally, I had a change of heart. I became more interested in learning about chiropractic, which eventually led me to become a professional practitioner.
Dr. Annie Reyes: It was my first and only choice. I had a number of injuries during my rugby career in high school and college, and it was recommended that I see a chiropractor to help with my recovery and performance. I had some digestive issues that I did not think would be a chiropractic issue at all, but I was educated by my chiropractor about how the nervous system works and how it could help me -- and it did!

Why did you choose NYCC (now Northeast College)?
Dr. Annie Reyes: I chose NYCC because its students had the highest board scores. I was excited to be going to a school that was in the Finger Lakes because of its amazing lakes and scenery.
Dr. Matt Reyes: I chose NYCC because it was highly recommended by the students. I enjoyed touring the campus, and I already had friendships with some of the students who were in the program.

How did NYCC prepare you for your career?
Dr. Annie Reyes: [It was] great preparation for passing the national boards and state examinations. The program gave us the step-by-step confidence to understand the human body, doctor-patient communication, and chiropractic adjusting techniques.
