Meet Dr. Lisa Bloom (D.C. ’87), Professor Emeritus

Dr. Lisa Bloom (D.C. '87) holds a much-honored, and rare, title — professor emeritus. Only two people before Bloom have been bestowed with the honor at Northeast College, formerly NYCC. Her exceptional work, most recently as assistant dean of preclinical chiropractic education, and her commitment to the entire Northeast community earned her the distinction.

Retiring in 2019 after a 24-year career at NYCC, Bloom continues to work with the College to help build a faculty mentoring program. But her education did not start in chiropractic. Bloom first earned her bachelor's in music composition from Ithaca College. After her studies, though, she had the nagging feeling she could be doing more to help others.
Bloom went back to school to earn the prerequisites for chiropractor graduate work and applied to all the chiropractic colleges across the country, even though she truly knew she wanted to attend NYCC. Admitted by all, Bloom held out for the final "yes" from NYCC — and then gladly accepted. She graduated in 1987 and began teaching her first chiropractic class during spring trimester of 1990.

"After all these years, I am so grateful for the opportunities that came with being connected to this College. I have lectured and traveled to just about every state in the U.S., all because I have been part of Northeast College of Health Sciences. My depth of gratitude is absolute," Bloom said.

Retirement is full for Bloom, as she works with Concordia University of Chicago to redevelop their STEM program and teach leadership graduate studies she also writes songs, performs with three bands, playing keyboard and bass, AND coaches CrossFit! This is in addition to her continued work with Northeast College of Health Sciences, her alma mater, which she will always remain dedicated to.
